This family room concept has got me so worked up, I may need serious help. Let me set the scene: The Paisley Fabric for drapes, paired with this unreal Missoni striped wool carpet. Two English Roll Arm Sofas, most likely in a neutral linen velvet or linen, a pair of swivel chairs in one of the orange fabrics above, and this cabinet for the TV in orange or turquoise lacquer. My client already has a gorgeous library table in a rich brown patina and we are considering a fabulous wrought iron fixture for the ceiling from Ironware International.
While my client loves this scheme, I chose a second— equally compelling alternative, so she had options. The real difference is the drapery, where we could swap the paisley for this Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon in the aqua colourway. Rug stays the same and swivels and upholstery stay the same, for the most part. We would have to play with pillow fabrics a bit as you see, but the feeling is much the same; color, pattern and FUN!

Tell me, which scheme do you like best? We want to know!

paisley…hands down! i see the dragon popping up everywhere these days. Last week I saw it on a seat cushion and I know it was the most expensive item in the room.. (including furniture!)
the paisley is beautiful and different.
dragon!
While I love the chocolate tones in the paisley… the dragon had me at hello with those gorgeous chrystanimums! (or however you spell big gorgeous flower)
The dragon is all over the internet on lots of blogs – doesn’t feel special anymore….
love the dragon fabric – I think it looks a bit more sophisticated than the paisley. The navy on the dragon contrasting with the orange is great.
Option #2 – The dragon fabric really brings out the colors in the other fabrics you’ve chosen!
While the dragon is more sophisticated and eloquent, it is all over the internet and to me also does not feel special. I have never seen that paisley it looks great! Use that one.

Not that I’m biased or anything, but I think the paisley is more sophisticated. ; )
The first Scheme with the Paisley!!! It’s different and unique….Looks great Katie.
definitely the dragon! it looks much fresher and i love the aqua with the orange.
D – R – A – G – O – N !
OK Katie- You know I am a dragon fan…yes it does seem like you see it everywhere, but I still consider it timeless and a piece of art. What does it have – 20 screens?! The other one feels too Bloomsbury. Just saying.
Paisley… hard choice, seems to be divided here.
I much prefer Chiang Mai Dragon to the paisley. The reason we see it so much on design blogs is because it is crazy good. However, it is too expensive to actually end up in most people’s homes, other than on throw pillows.
Tough crowd here on Bogle Street. I have a different opinion. The paisley palette is harmonious and the dragon palette, being complimentary, is much more energetic. I think the answer lies more how the rest of the house is decorated and owner’s preference. Both are beautiful.
That being said, I’d love to see the dragon room!
Haha. All the pros are chiming in (I see you Carolanne)! I vote for the paisley: so fresh and fun. Your call, Katie, but how about throwing a little more purple in the mix?
I will let you know what the client has decided….and it may be a surprise!
No more purple for this gal, perhaps magenta or pink or orange…but let’s just say you all may be surprised at her final choice; more news to come!
OH AND BY THE WAY, THE CHIANG MAI DRAGON WON THIS CONTEST…
This is fun! I prefer the dragon (but very slightly, tight contest) and am glad it won. I think pulling out some of those aqua and dark blues from the dragon fabric and using for the pillow accents would tone down the warm and fiery oranges. Enjoy! Looks like loads of fun!
