It’s a terrible idea to try to decide on a paint color at night. It’s hard enough to judge color subtleties during the day, especially considering off white varieties, but at night—forget about it. Here are 3 colors seen at 7 p.m.

Below are the same photos in daylight, without artificial light enhancement, and let’s see if they appear different.

I have told you which one I chose for my bedroom zhush: Farrow and Ball: Clunch. Take a look at a photo I snapped on my iPhone this morning of the bedroom. Could you tell? In the mail are some gigantic burlap lamp shades to add contrast, and they should arrive any day now.

Truth be told, I have a few tricks up my sleeve, but I will save those for another day… I am even considering a headboard re-cover using some unbleached flax-colored linen fabric I already own. Not entirely free, but as close to it as one can get. That is, in my own twisted mind. Doug would beg to differ. The best thing would have been to let it be… But that’s no fun at all!

Love the new look, your burlap shades will make a world of difference!
I didn’t know you blogged on Fridays. What a nice treat
I think this makeover is great. Please post more pictures for us when it is all complete.
Good advice about selecting color at night! Actually painting at night isn’t such a hot idea either.
I’m cracking up because I just did the same thing! I did my test in the evening too and thank goodness I didn’t like any of them or I probably would’ve painted a whole wall and then had to explain to husband why we needed to sleep in the guest room.
Here’s my photo
