The notion of black paint scares me, frankly. Black furniture I fully embrace, but walls??? I remember a photo of Jenna Lyons’ (the ever popular style director of J.Crew) home with charcoal-almost black walls and pops of acid yellow. That photo ignited lots of chatter in the design world about such darkness on walls.

The question is, does it really work or make sense for you? As I sit in the deeply dark lobby of the all black Ace Hotel, surrounded by dark denim and trench coats, my inclination is to pass. I just woke up and it feels like 10 PM. But you decide, could black work for you?
