I got an overwhelming response to my “breakdown study” of an eclectic bedroom by Denver design firm Griffin Design Source. Asked by many to do another study, I aptly complied. After all, I want to give my readers what they want when they want it! Here’s another electric eclectic space for contemplation:
Image via Pinterest
1. Super formal damask-esque window treatments with traditional valance in bold bright unexpected color.
2. Vintage Italian crystal chandelier
3. Stark black and white geometric broadloom carpet made into a bound area rug
4. Nothing-to-write-home-about taupe sofa
5. Whimsical powder pink and cream and metallic silver silk pillows makes it special
6. White lacquer modern parsons-style side table
7. Turquoise glass contemporary lamp
8. Vintage gilded shield-back chair covered in chartreuse silk
9. Federal style mirror
10. Very formal traditional fireplace moulding surround
11. A flokati pouf!
Now, that’s eclectic!

Okay I’ll be the first comment today: notice the difference between the valance and a pelmet. Valance is soft with no board frame…
Here’s my question: I see a green chair, turquoise lamp, yellow valence, and taupe sofa. Since this photo is only a snippet of the entire room, do you suggest carrying one of those colors throughout, making at least one of them more dominant??
I would not make one color dominant, but I do think pops of turquoise, be it in another lamp or object of art glass would be a good idea. Perhaps one more pale pink pillow with another mismatched one–maybe a pattern with pink, yellow, and other colors OR with at least one or more of the following: pink, turquoise, yellow.
There should be at least one balanced element—a set of something, maybe another matching table with lamp or another shield chair placed on the other side somewhere. But at least one pair is good. Otherwise it looks like a mish mash rather than a curated collection with an anchor.
Does that help?
Love that rug! It’s funny, I saw it in another interior photo a few weeks ago with very modern black & white furniture and I HATED it. It’s beautiful here, so interesting to see how all of the elements come together.
Lord knows we all have those pieces that are “not-something-to-write-home-about” Glad a beautiful room can still be accomplished using them..
ok, i know this is probably a lot to as, but i would DIE to see your inspiration board of an eclectic space. i am always so unsure of nailing down this mismatched eclectic look.
just a thought for upcoming blog
I could do that…..give me a few days…
but it wont be like this it will be MY version of eclectic…
