Go ahead, paint your front door a bright color! I have had a turquoise door (in New Jersey) an orange door (in Florida), a black one (in LA) and now it is olive green, but a year ago it was taxi-cab yellow. The proverbial wisdom is to have a solid wood front door, and maybe even garage doors and a side door to match.
You can paint the front door and certainly leave other doors the way they are. That adds a real pop. Or paint both front and side doors. Painting garage doors is a huge deal—you may want to think hard on that one…
Many people will scoff at my suggestion; how could you paint a solid wood door? The thought!! I say do it! It’s fun, adds loads of character and conveys a sense of light, bright, and happy. One of the best ways to quell house boredom is to change the door color—-it’s inexpensive and low commitment. Open the door to fun!

I love the blue, and the orange, and green is pretty fab too. How bold of you to have such gloriously coloured doors – mind you in Florida it’s kind of expected isn’t it? I wish I could be so daring, and although I was planning on black for our renovation, maybe I’ll consider something a little more optimistic. Thanks for the tip.
great colors, all of them! i’m so inspired to do something with my front door. It is currently a very boring off white which I blame the previous owners of the house for! But question: to storm door or not to storm door? It obvs looks so much better without but i like to catch a breeze through the house (without bugs!) when we can…
Mae,
We never met in NY:( What a shame…
Hmmm, that’s a tough one. There are some really great looking storm doors, but the usual ones are not so great…I would remove it unless it’s a custom one or a really nice wood one. I have seen Chippendale ones that are super. Made somewhere in Maine—can’t recall the source offhand…
Go for color. take a chance!
K:)
