Big Apple

New York City, New York | Photography Rachel McGinn

Another internet connection, this client bought a pied-a-terre in the heart of New York’s upper West Side with amazing views of Central Park. I often get requests for color and pattern, but this client pushed my already loose boundaries in terms of maximalism—she wanted it all. The challenge here was to create texture and warmth in a 1980’s apartment where there was no interesting architectural elements to carry the design. This kind of decorating can be difficult—in my opinion, layering, art and whimsical use of pattern and texture were deployed to create a fun, surprising environment. The result is an apartment that, while rooted in classic pieces, has a real wild side, while remaining sophisticated and even pretty, I hope.
